FAQs

Q: What’s the difference between a category romance and single-title romance?

A: Category romances are generally stripped down to the core romance. They’re shorter (45k-65k), trope-driven, and often follow a set of “rules” dictated by the imprint/line on which they’re published.

Single-title romances have a longer word count (75k-100k, on average), more secondary characters, subplots, and are the kind of books you’ll linger over and savor—not just because of the longer word count, but because of the emotional depth, and rich world-building.

Q. Amara is a "single-title" romance imprint. Do you consider series?

A: "Single-title" is a publishing term for standard-length (75k-100k, on average) fiction novels. We enjoy connected books with series potential!

Entangled TEEN, our single-title young adult imprint, utilizes both digital-first and traditional publishing models to deliver the swoonworthy young adult romances readers crave to online and brick-and-mortar bookstores near you. Whether they’re dark and angsty or fun and sassy, contemporary, fantastical, or futuristic, TEEN has exactly what teen (and teen at heart!) readers want. We are seeking fresh voices with interesting twists on popular genres.

We consider novels in the following subgenres of romantic fiction:

  •  Contemporary
  • Science Fiction
  • Paranormal
  • Fantasy
  •  Historical
  •  Romantic Suspense and Thrillers

  Guidelines:

  • High-concept plots that leave us clamoring for more, told from a uniquely teen point of view
  • 70k to 120k words in length

  • Romantic elements are a must! M/F, M/M, F/F or any romance between two people. Give us a great romance!
  • Diverse characters are welcomed and encouraged!
  • We accept both agented and unagented submissions.
  • Please attach a synopsis as well as the full manuscript.

Embrace is looking for engaging voice and bold, fresh stories in the following genres:

Welcome to August, our exciting new single-title romance imprint, where characters are more seasoned in life and love. Send us heroes and heroines in their 40s and above who haven’t been on the dating scene since Backstreet Boys vs. ‘N Sync was a thing, Jack and Rose were king and queen of the world, and people were arguing over whether Ross and Rachel were “on a break”.

  • Relatable characters ages 40+ who put love on the backburner to launch their careers, or may be looking to start a new chapter in life. Diverse characters are welcomed and encouraged!

  • M/F, M/M, F/F or any romance between two people
  • Heat level can be mild to steamy but not erotic

The devilishly handsome guy next door. The rugged fireman who shops at the corner store. The bartender with the amazing dimples... Ahh. Romance is in the air at Bliss with fun, fresh, flirty stories of modern women and every-day men finding their happily ever after in sweetest of places.

Specifically, we want:

•  Proven category tropessuch as mistaken identity, rivalry, fake relationship, older brother’s best friend, enemies-to-lovers, best friends-to-lovers, bait and switch, across the tracks, etc.

•  Every-day heroeslike firemen, cowboys, bartenders, military men etc. The kind of men from small towns you wish you could find closer to home. Beta heroes are just as welcome as Alpha heroes.

•  Romance as the primary plot— secondary characters such as parents, friends, siblings, or children can, and should, reinforce the hero and heroine’s journey, but shouldn’t overshadow their story. Bliss stories should include side characters such as family members, if the story calls for it. And a vibrant cast of townspeople is always appreciated as well.

•  Diversity. Diverse characters are welcomed and encouraged!

•  Romance between two people of any gender.Give us a great love story!

•  POV should be split 50/50 between the main protagonists.Third-person POV preferred.

•  Small-town setting—whether it’s a vineyard in California, a ranch in Montana, or a pub in England, the setting should be somewhere outside of a city. The community/setting should be a part of the story. Think the town of Bluebell in Hart of Dixie or Stars Hollow in Gilmore Girls.

•  Sweet heat level. Bliss books have sexual tension but closed-door (or no) sex scenes.

•  Unique voices in the veinof Catherine Bybee, Susan Mallery, Suzanne Elizabeth Phillips, Robyn Carr, Jill Shalvis.

Movies that inspire us:Sweet Home Alabama, The Holiday, While You Were Sleeping, The Proposal

Having trouble deciding which imprint to submit your story?

The differences betweenLovestruckandBlissare: tone and setting. Bliss romances take place in small towns, include family and friends, and a flirty tone. Lovestruck stories are focused on finding love in more urban settings, the tone is edgier, and the heat level is higher.

The difference betweenIndulgenceandBlissis the hero. Indulgence heroes are “fantasy” men who have wealth and power and know how to wield it. Bliss heroes are the guys you meet in real life. Indulgence heroes are always alpha—Bliss heroes can be alpha, but beta is great, too!

The difference betweenBrazenandBlissis heat! In Brazen, the sexual interaction is the gravitational force that brings the characters to true love. In Bliss, the sexual attraction is not the focus, but rather a result. Bliss has closed-door sex scenes, if any.

The fine print:

•  Manuscripts should be between 45k-60K words in length, with 50-55K being the ideal.

•  Unless you are an established romance author, manuscripts must be complete prior to submission. Proposals from established authors should include at least the first two chapters: one POV from the heroine and one from the hero.

•  We accept both agented and unagented submissions at this time.

Brazen, our fun and sexy popular contemporary romance imprint, blends bright new voices, memorable characters, and twists on familiar tropes with high heat levels, allowing readers to enjoy the more seductive side of modern romance. Whether they’re witty and playful, or lush and intense, our books are always fun, fast-paced, and dialogue-heavy.

If you like your heroes hot, the sex hotter, and a swoon-worthy romance to swoop in and deliver a happily ever after, Brazen has the story for you!

Specifically, we want:

  • Proven category tropes such as fake relationship, bait and switch, wrong bed, best friends-to-lovers, fish out of water, older brother's best friend, enemies-to-lovers, mistaken identity, revenge, one-night-stand, sexy protectors, opposites attract, boardroom romance, matchmaker, etc.
  • Compelling stories with a high heat level. Brazen books are fun, sexy, and emotionally satisfying. In addition to scintillating sexual tension, we want to see explicit love scenes organic to the story's characters. If you can make us laugh AND cry, you’ve got our attention!
  • Sexy, capable heroes, typically in their mid-20s to early-30s, paired with spunky and/or sweet heroines. As the quote goes, "You know what's sexier than a bad boy? A badass man that has his shit together." Think small town-boys-done-good, tattooed anti-heroes, cowboys, athletes, military (current and former), firefighters, cops, sexy nerds, guys that own their own business, and CEOs. Dirty talkers not required.
  • Diversity. Diverse characters are welcomed and encouraged!
  • M/F, M/M, F/F or any romance between two people. Give us a great love story!
  • POV should be split 50/50 between the hero and heroine. Both 1st and 3rd person POV are welcome.
  • Authors with voices we love: Gina L. Maxwell, Tessa Bailey, Samanthe Beck, Laura Kaye, Elle Kennedy, Christine Bell, Cari Quinn, Katee Robert, Joya Ryan, Sara Jane Stone, and Megan Erickson.

The fine print:

  • Manuscripts should be between 50k-60K words in length.
  • Unless you are an established romance author querying on proposal, manuscripts should be complete and polished prior to submission.
  • We accept both agented and unagented submissions at this time.

At the heart of every Indulgence is the ultimate fantasy hero that women dream about. The kind of man who knows how to wield the power and wealth he possesses. Our stories are active, fast-paced, and dialogue-heavy, using timeless, classic romance tropes to drive the story.

Powerful heroes. Passionate romance. That’s Indulgence.

Specifically, we want:

  • Proven category tropes such as matchmakers, ugly duckling, friends to lovers, revenge, blackmail, enemies to lovers, mistaken identity. We use three tropes per story.
  • Stories featuring alpha heroes and the everyday, relatable women who capture their hearts.
  • Stories must focus on the hero and heroine alone; no secondary characters as main characters with their own POV.
  • Diverse characters are welcomed and encouraged!
  • POV should be split 50/50 between the two main protagonists.
  • M/F, M/M, F/F or any romance between two people. Give us a great love story!
  • Diverse authors and characters encouraged!
  • Strong conflict. Cannot be stressed enough. What is keeping these two apart and how do they overcome the obstacles? Please have clear and convincing GMC for hero and heroine.
  • The sensuality level can be mild to scintillating.
  • Unsure whether you've written an Indulgence, a Lovestruck, or a Brazen? Indulgence heroes are fantasy men who know how to wield the power and wealth they possess. Lovestruck focuses on modern men and women finding love in unexpected places. Brazen stories are driven by the hero and heroine's physical relationship.
  • Manuscripts must be 50-60K words in length.
  • Authors who are willing to edit and work with us in a collaborative process to make the manuscript the best it can be.
  • We accept both agented and unagented submissions.

Fall in love with the possibilities…

Find love where you least expect it with Lovestruck, Entangled’s romantic comedy imprint. Our focus is on memorable “meet-cutes” between strangers, a strong romantic connection full of fun banter, and satisfying endings that leave readers smitten. We are looking for fresh voices, witty dialogue, and the familiar tropes readers love.

Specifically, we would like to see:

  • Romantic comedies are what we do best. We like our stories to be lively, playful, and sensual, and full of banter, beginning with a memorable “meet-cute” and ending with a swoon-worthy close.
  • Tropes! Think best friends-to-lovers, bait and switch, forced proximity, fish out of water, ugly duckling, older brother’s best friend, fake relationship, mistaken identity, enemies-to-lovers, matchmaker, sexy protectors, opposites attract, boardroom romance, etc.
  • Romance. Lovestrucks are driven by the hero and heroine’s connection—their meeting may have been coincidental (or accidental!), but there’s no denying the romance sparking between them. We want to be invested in their love story, drowning in all the feels with each turn of the page.
  • Realistic heroes. Typically in their late-20s to mid-30s, Lovestruck heroes are self-assured and successful at what they do. They're the kind of guys women hope they’ll run into at the grocery store.
  • Our heroines are intelligent, likable, relatable women in their mid- to late-20s meeting the future love of their life in unexpected ways.
  • Diversity. Diverse characters are welcomed and encouraged! M/F, M/M, F/F or any romance between two people. Give us a great love story!
  • POV should be split 50/50 between the main protagonists.
  • Moderate to high heat level. We prefer to keep the door open when the hanky panky begins!
  • Voices we love: Rachel Gibson, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Jennifer Crusie, Samanthe Beck, Marissa Clarke, Sarah Ballance, Kira Archer, Stefanie London, and Shannon Stacey.
  • Movies that inspire us: The Proposal, Leap Year, 27 Dresses, Two Night Stand, Friends with Benefits, Only You, Love Actually, Never Been Kissed, and Hallmark Christmas movies...all with a little more heat!

The fine print:

  • Manuscripts should be between 50k-60K words in length.
  • Unless you are an established romance author querying on proposal or an Entangled author, manuscripts must be complete prior to submission.
  • We accept both agented and unagented submissions at this time.
  • Please attach a synopsis as well as the full manuscript.

Scandalous is the historical popular romance imprint of Entangled Publishing. Historical doesn’t mean antiquated! Passion and romance are exciting in any era. And torrid love affairs are even more illicit when social mores forbid the entanglement. These stories are bold, sexy, and heartfelt, and can be funny, action-packed, mysterious, dramatic. But above all...scandalous.

Specifically, we want:

·       Proven category tropes. Marriage of convenience, spinster/wallflower, governess, compromised, rake, enemies to lovers, fake engagement, etc.

·       Strong Heroes. Stories that feature an alpha male, whether he be royalty, titled, a military hero, a highlander, Viking, club owner...you name it. Dukes, Lairds, Vikings—these are the original alpha men.

·       Romance as the primary plot. Stories focused on the heroine and hero falling in love. The pair should be together on page for the majority of the story.

·       POV should be split 50/50 between the main protagonists.

·       M/F, M/M, F/F or any romance between two people. Give us a great love story!

·       Strong conflict. What is keeping these two apart and how do they overcome the obstacles?

·       Sensual stories. Closed door scenes are acceptable, but sexual tension must be tight throughout.

·       Time periods: Through WWII. Victorian and Regency preferred.

·       Heroines who are age 17+, confident, and can be unconventional (a scientist, for example).

·       Diversity. Diverse characters are welcomed and encouraged!

·       Unique voices in the vein of Tessa Dare, Suzanne Enoch, Lorraine Heath, Meredith Duran, Lisa Kleypas.

The fine print:

·       Time travel welcome but alternate/manipulation of history cannot be the focal point

·       Manuscripts must be 55-65K words in length.

·       Revised backlist titles will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

·       We accept agented and un-agented submissions.

Of particular interest at this time:

·       The Scottish Highlands. Also, the Regency, Victorian, and Viking time periods.

·       Titled rakes/scoundrels/rogues, and the relatable women willing and able to stand up to them.

·       Mail-order bride romances

·       Series based around a group of friends, sisters, or brothers
